Even though the meat-head heavy “The Expendables 2” is already in front of cameras, with the Ben Gay-sponsored cast ripping it up for next summer’s blockbuster, rumors have still been floating about possible appearances in the film. One rumor picking up heat in recent weeks was the possibility of Nicolas Cage and John Travolta joining the cast. Well, we heard from Cage’s reps who told us he was not going to be in the film, and reportedly the folks at Think McFly Think have learned that Travolta is out too. Bummer. But they’re not the only ones who have been on Sly Stallone’s lengthy wishlist.

Remember “Assassins,” the action thriller with Stallone and Antonio Banderas, penned by The Wachowskis (who ultimately wanted their names taken off the movie) and Brian Helgeland and directed by Richard Donner? Well, if you’ve been dreaming of a Banderas/Stallone reteam, so has Sly. Catching up with Banderas doing the rounds for “Puss In Boots,” Sandwich John Films asked the actor if Sly had given him a ring about the upcoming action flick.

“They asked me to do it, I don’t think at this point I will have the time,” he said. “I am very disappointed that it didn’t work out. But you never know I will have to talk to Sly.” So there you…maybe he will have another shot when they make the inevitable “The Expendables 3.” And in case you missed it, Mickey Rourke is also confirmed not to be in the next installment either. So who is?

Well, you can expect to see Stallone, Randy Couture, Bruce Willis, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Jean-Claude Van Damme, Scott Adkins, Liam Hemsworth and more likely to be announced/confirmed in the Simon West directed movie that hits on August 17, 2012.
