Ben Affleck Predicts David Fincher's 'Gone Girl' Will Create Controversy Plus New Pics From The Film

Gone Girl"You hope he didn’t murder his wife. And then you hope he did," Ben Affleck tells Details about David Fincher‘s upcoming thriller "Gone Girl." Based on the best-selling thriller by Gillian Flynn, it’s the story of a woman who goes missing, the husband who’s implicated in the disappearance, but more importantly, it’s about the truth and lies that relationships and marriages are built upon. And it’s a movie that it’s star Ben Affleck predicts will cause controversy.

"That’s going to happen with this movie, I think. I feel like this is one where couples are going to be, ‘Do you think that was okay?’ And the husband’s got to decide, ‘Do I be honest, or do I live a comfortable life?,’ " Affleck told the magazine.

Perhaps the most interesting thing about his character, Nick Dunne, is that he’s a complex individual, both sympathetic and reprehensible all at once. “The sense is: ‘Here is this guy who may have killed his wife, but also I would love to grab a cheeseburger with him, and is that weird?’ “ author Flynn told The New York Times (she also notes the finished movie is very close to the story in the book). “There’s very few actors who have that aloofness, that little bit of arrogance, and that inherent likability.”

Fascinating stuff, and it makes us even more eager to see this one that may be an Oscar player. "Gone Girl" opens on October 3rd.
