Got a Tip?

Chloe Moretz Offered Lead In ‘Carrie’ Remake, Film Aiming To Shoot Later This Year

nullOver the weekend we suggested that with Haley Bennett and Chloe Moretz both being considered for the lead in the developing "Carrie" remake, it would come down to the decision to go with an unknown versus star power. And it looks like the latter has won out.

Deadline reports that after meeting with director Kimberly Peirce last weekend, the actress "got the job immediately" and has now been formally offered the role, with agents and executives set to go into negotiations and hammer out a deal. Should it all work out, Moretz will be taking on the role of the humiliated high school girl who exacts revenge on her classmates, a part that landed Sissy Spacek an Oscar nod back in the day in Brian De Palma's classic.

Once all the ink is dry and this thing moves forward, the next step will be to find the religious and fanatical mother, and names like Jodie Foster and Julianne Moore have been tossed around thus far. It is a role that previously nabbed Oscar recognition, with Piper Laurie earning a nomination for the original. Should all the pieces come together, "Carrie" will go in front of cameras later this year.
