Critic Mark Kermode Wants 'Inside Out' To Win Best Picture Oscar, Predicts Nomination For 'Mad Max: Fury Road'

Inside Out Mad Max: Fury RoadOver the weekend we slipped from October into November, which now means we’re four months away from the Oscars. There are still some massive movies to come our way including "The Hateful Eight," "Joy," and "The Revenant," but for U.K. critic Mark Kermode, he already has selected the movie he wants to win Best Picture.

"I think it’d be great if 2016 was the year that ‘Inside Out‘ became the first animated feature to win the Best Picture Oscar," he told Digital Spy.

Certainly, the movie was a near unanimous hit with both critics and audiences and barring some kind of upset, a Best Animated Feature Film nomination is in the bag, and a Best Picture nomination isn’t outside the realm of possibility ("Up," "Toy Story 3," and "Beauty And The Beast" have previously achieved the feat). Meanwhile, the critic predicts a celebrated blockbuster will join the ranks of Best Picture: "Mad Max: Fury Road."

Kermode says with the expanded field of ten nominees it means ‘Fury Road’ could shift gears into the lineup, but cautions that "trying to second guess the Academy… you look at the list of winners and go ‘really?!’ " Again, it’s not impossible for George Miller‘s movie to make the cut, particularly if some of the upcoming contenders can’t make the grade, but it’s a competitive lineup this year.
