Is The '28 Weeks Later' Sequel Dead? Writer Alex Garland Says There's No Plan For Another Film

null"I'd love to direct another one of it, actually," Danny Boyle said of the possibility of directing a sequel to "28 Weeks Laternearly two years ago. But within that same week, he also said, "if it's a new idea and it's pretty good, it'll get made whether I direct it or not." And a lot of things have happened since then. Boyle has been very busy, directing a very well-received stage production of "Frankenstein," overseeing the spectacle of this summer's London Olympics and in case you forgot, he shot (and will soon be editing) the art heist thriller "Trance." It's probably pretty obvious given the fact almost all chatter around another installment of those zombie movies have died down, but frequent Boyle collaborator Alex Garland is here to confirm the undead will be staying dead.

"I'm still so proud of '28 Days Later' and how well it's been received over the years so I appreciate that. But in regards to another movie, no — there are no plans for a '28 Months Later' or whatever they were calling it," the screenwriter told Dread Central. "This is a series I've always been heavily involved with between the original and the sequel so if there were plans for another movie, I would absolutely know about it."

So that's that? It would seem so. All talk around "28 Months Later" always seemed more like wishful thinking, and certainly there was very little concrete laid down, so we suppose it was an inevitability that the creative principals have since moved on to other things. We like the first two movies just fine, and while a third would have been interesting, we wonder if it would've been going back to the well one time too many. But if you want to see Garland's work in action, you won't have to wait long. "Dredd 3D" opens this weekend.
