Ever since the news arrived that Sony and Marvel were going to work together to bring Spider-Man into the Marvel Cinematic Universe, there has been no shortage of rumor and conjecture about what that means. Perhaps the strongest bit of buzz (that has sometimes been confused or mixed with hope) is that Marvel will bring the Miles Morales incarnation of the character to the big screen. However, Marvel honcho Kevin Feige has ruled that out for now, while keeping the door open down the road.
"I mean, we always felt it should be Peter [Parker] because we’ve never seen the MCU version of Peter Parker," Feige told MTV about plans for Spider-Man. "We felt like we needed to see that first. Miles, I think is awesome. I think there are opportunities for him for sure if this all works."
It seems Marvel already has their vision for Spider-Man, and not only that, they know what the new hero will look like. “We’ve already designed the costume, which is different than any of the ones that have come before," he said to CraveOnline. "And yet ours is classic Spidey, as I think you’ll see.”
But perhaps most intriguingly, Feige seems to suggest we’ll be spending a lot of time with Peter Parker in high school. "Some of my favorite Spider-Man arcs and Spider-Man stories — he’s in high school for a lot of it. We want to explore that. That also makes him very, very different from any of our other characters in the [Marvel Cinematic Universe], which is something else we want to explore: how unique he is when now put against all these other characters," Feige said to Collider.
Noting that the new Peter Parker will be fifteen or sixteen years old, he continued: "There are so many things from the comics that haven’t been done yet. Not just characters or villains or supporting characters, but sides to his character. The most obvious being the young, doesn’t quite fit in kid before his powers, and then the ‘fella that puts on a mask and swings around and fights bad guys."
