Simon Pegg Says ‘Star Wars’ Prequels Are “Utter Infanticide,” Plus ‘Force Awakens’ Fans Flock To Regina And More

The general consensus is that George Lucas‘ "Star Wars" prequels are each disasters: dull, ill-conceived and executed with none of the magic of the originals. Yet if you look hard enough, you can find someone who will defend the movies, or at least find some element worth celebrating. However, Simon Pegg is not one of them. Don’t even try to make the argument to him that the prequels have any value.

“I don’t really have any respect for anyone who thinks those films are good,” the actor told New York Daily News. “They’re not. (They’re) a monumental misunderstanding of what the (original) three films are about. It’s an exercise in utter infanticide… (like) George Lucas killing his kid.” Yikes.

Lucas will get his own chance to judge Pegg’s take on the franchise when "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" opens next month. The actor served as a consultant on the movie directed by J.J. Abrams, and among the many decisions made along the way was making the new droid BB-8 female. I guess that’s cool and/or interesting? 

Meanwhile, the anticipation is building for the movie that’s just over a month away, as everyone makes plans for when and where they’re gonna see it. Up in Canada, the IMAX theater in Regina, Saskatchewan has a special claim to fame —it’s the only place north of the border where you’ll be able to see ‘The Force Awakens’ on glorious film stock on a 52 x 73 foot screen. Fans from as far away as the United Kingdom are traveling there to have that experience.
