An update on a couple of gestating projects that now have some pens being taken to them.

It has been over three years now since development started on an “Emily The Strange” movie and nearly a year since Chloe Moretz bagged the lead role, but fans of the gothy girl take note — she’s still on her way to the big screen. Melisa Wallack, who penned the script for the forthcoming and remarkably still-untitled Tarsem Snow White movie, has been tasked to write the script. It’s been a remarkable rise for the character which started as a sticker and quickly spawned a clothing line, comic books, novels and video games. Details on the story are under wraps but it will focus on how Emily comes to gain her powers and her relationship with her cats Sabbath, Nee-Chee, Miles and Mystery. Because that’s exactly what people want to see: a movie about a girl and her cats.

Speaking of comics and adaptations, you might remember that earlier this summer Paramount optioned the movie rights to the DC ComicThe Mighty.” Well, they are getting to work on it right away. The studio has hired “Iron Man 3” writer Drew Pearce to pen the script. Created by Peter Tomasi and Keith Champagne, the story follows Gabriel Cole, a mortal, ordinary human and police officer, who was saved as a child by the hero Alpha One. Unfortunately, the caped figure has an evil plan in the works and Gabriel must try and stop him. So in short, it’s the baddie who has all the powers, not our hero, which is a pretty nice little twist to the standard superhero tale.

Paramount recently ended their distribution deal with Marvel Entertainment, leaving a big gap in their programming tentpole-wise, so we won’t be surprised if this one moves fast to try and pick up some of that slack. [THR/Variety]
