Early April Fools? Or is Joss Whedon's "The Avengers" more arthouse than funhouse? Either way, it's with some surprise and shock that this morning we hear the Tribeca Film Festival has announced that the Marvel mega movie will be their closing night film on Saturday April 28th. Take that, Joe Swanberg!
But really, the most likely reason the superhero movie has landed the gig at Tribeca is that it's two days after the movie opens overseas, and just under a week before it hits the multiplex in the U.S. So yeah, kind of a convenient red carpet opportunity, but it won't be wasted. "Everyday heroes" from the police and fire departments, first responders and U.S. military will be on hand and honored for saving the world "every day by making it a better place for all of us." Break out your hankies.
In related news, Rolling Stone reveals that Chris Cornell has decided he needs pad out his retirement account, and after doing some reunion gigs last couple of years with alternative icons Soundgarden, the band have recorded their first new piece of music in 15 years, entitled "Live To Rise" to be featured on "The Avengers" soundtrack. A brief, vocal-less snippet has hit the web and the slick production and limp riffs makes us miss Badmotorfinger all the more. Listen below.
