Since premiering to rapturous audiences at Sundance and sparking a bidding war — eventually won by the kingmakers over at The Weinstein Company — “Fruitvale Station” has ridden a wave of buzz through Cannes with many tipping the film to be a major player come awards season. With its release weeks away, the studio has dropped three new clips from the film that are sure to tug at those heartstrings.

Written and directed by Ryan Coogler, the film is based on the true story of the final hours in the life of the 22-year-old Oscar Grant who was pulled off a rowdy BART train at the Fruitvale station and was shot in the back by police, dying from his wounds. The three clips showcase Michael B. Jordan as Grant meeting with his mother and girlfriend (Octavia Spencer and Melonie Diaz, respectively) and saying goodbye to his young daughter.

Check out the clips below and see what everyone’s talking about when “Fruitvale Station” opens in limited release on July 12th.
