Watch: First Came 'Men, Women & Children,' Then 'Blackhat,' & Now The Trailer For 'Cyberbully' Starring Maisie Wililams

CyberbullyIf we’ve learned anything from Hollywood lately, it’s that the internet is a place where bad things happen and where we lose our very souls. Recent bummer movies about the online world have included the little-seen indie ensemble "Disconnect," Jason Reitman’s misfire "Men, Women & Children" (which featured a harrowing sequence of what happens when a "Guild Wars" account is deleted), the laptop-set thriller "Open Windows" (get it?), and next week Michael Mann will deliver his hackers-gone-wild opus, "Blackhat." But perhaps nothing can prepare you for the trailer for "Cyberbully."

"Game Of Thrones" star Maisie Williams stars in this Channel 4 TV movie about a young woman who is stalked online — INSERT FRANTIC KEYBOARD TYPING. This promo is a thing of wonder to behold in 2015, with production values and drama more reminiscent of Sandra Bullock‘s hard drive drama classic "The Net" than anything contemporary. From the laughable presence of a hacker who creates a cornball visual for the voice he uses to speak through his victim’s computer, to shots of Williams staring in horror at her computer screen and web camera, it’s all a shame because somewhere in here there is a serious issue to be explored. But perhaps we shouldn’t expect much from co-writer/director Ben Chanan whose last effort was "Blackout"…a found footage movie about a week long power outage….

Check out the trailer for "Cyberbully" below — it airs on Channel 4 on January 15th. And for the hell of it, here’s the promo for "Blackout." We smell a future cult movie double bill…
