While the fall season promises movies of substance, value and perhaps Oscar consideration, if you need something outrageous, dumb, juvenile and also kind of hilarious, the dudes of “Jackass” are coming. Suddenly dropped onto the calendar in the last couple of weeks, the first trailer for “Jackass Presents: Bad Grandpa” has arrived and it’s just as wrong as you might expect.
Utilizing somewhat of a loose narrative this time around, it finds Johnny Knoxville’s Grandpa going on a roadtrip with charming “Fun Size” actor Jackson Nicoll, which is basically an excuse for them to get into all kinds of mayhem. And borrowing the “Borat” formula, the pair interact with real-life folks, bringing havoc to weddings, funerals, promotional penguins and beauty pageants. “We both had reservations only because we had never fleshed the character out and didn’t know if it could sustain for a movie,” director Jeff Tremaine told USA Today. “Then we decided to come up with a story, and the story became really important. Yet it still houses these pranks which are shot in the real world with real unsuspecting people.”
Honestly, it’s hard to be too critical of these movies when they set a low bar and just aim right for it. You either dig this stuff or you don’t, but if you do…it looks like this might deliver. “Jackass Presents: Bad Grandpa” drops on October 25th.
