Longing for a beautiful musician, tangling with the Romanian underworld and doing everything he can to stay alive—Charlie Countryman’s European vacation probably isn’t what he expected. But then again, love has that strange chemical way of altering your horizons, and that is put on full display in the first trailer for the latest starring Shia LaBeouf, Evan Rachel Wood and Mads Mikkelsen.

Marking the directorial debut of commercials helmer Fredrik Bond, “Charlie Countryman” is a pedal to the floor story about a guy, a girl, a gangster, and the lengths one goes to chasing after the heart. And while the movie does boast some ambitious visuals and a clearly energetic approach along with a supporting cast that includes Melissa Leo, Rupert Grint, Til Schweiger and Vincent D’Onofrio, it unfortunately doesn’t come together. In our review from Sundance we wrote, the film “opens up with an interesting first section, but only backslides deeper and deeper in its overwrought and incoherent second and third acts. Tonally adolescent, the film is enraptured with the emo-ness and ecstasy of love…It will dive off cliffs in slow-motion to some fever-pitched post-rock song to demonstrate its commitment to your heart. Love may be all you need, but, sheesh, give it a rest for a second.”

“Charlie Countryman” arrives on November 15th. Watch below.
