Watch: Trailer For Morgan Spurlock’s ‘Comic-Con Episode IV – A Fan’s Hope’

Love him or hate him, there’s a pretty good chance you’ve found the often antagonizing but occasionally thought provoking “Super Size Me” documentarian Morgan Spurlock to be of interest at some point in his career. From his revealing take on the McDonald’s menu to his recent look at product placement and promotion in our culture with “The Greatest Movie Ever Sold,” Spurlock has covered much ground in his effort to satirize (and investigate) many elements of everyday American life.

Now he’s tackling a whole new subject, with his documentary “Comic-Con Episode IV: A Fan’s Hope,” chronicling the journey of three individuals labeled The Collector, The Geek, and The Designer as they follow their respective passions, that culminate in their attending the Mecca of all geekdom known as Comic-Con. The trailer has landed and it literally screams, in huge colorful comic bubbles, that fellow geeks in arms “Buffy The Vampire Slayer” helmer Joss Whedon and Marvel Comics mastermind Stan Lee helped bring this film to life as producers (and it also spawned a book released last summer). It’s certainly aiming to please the crowds that gather in San Diego every year for a sneak peek of upcoming films and television shows, video games, and especially comic books, and looks to boast a Comic-con attendees ideal cast of interviewees as well, with Seth Rogen, Kevin Smith, and “Cabin Fever” helmer Eli Roth all popping in to tell their Comic-Con anecdotes.

The trailer gives the sense of a film with great energy, as it attempts to document what it's like to spend a weekend surrounded by people cosplaying as everything from Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles to their favorite characters from “Final Fantasy” videogames. This one sure isn’t going to play to every viewer's tastes, but will certainly appease those that love the event, and perhaps draw some interest from those who have no idea what the hell a Comic-Con is.

The film did the festival thing last year, and will arrive in theaters on April 6th. Watch below (or in HD at Apple).
