How can Nikki and Jason cope with an unexpected visitor? The couple learns more about the children’s biological parents in the fifth season of “Trying.” Season four saw Nikki track down Kat, the biological mother. A reluctant Kat created a cliffhanger season finale when she ended up at their house. Series creator Andy Wolton once again writes and executive-produces the eight-episode season. He previously created the 2016 comedy series “The Coopers vs the Rest.”
“Trying” features a number of talented performers. BAFTA Award nominee Esther Smith and Actor Award nominee Rafe Spall reprise their roles of Nikki Newman and Jason Ross, respectively. Charlotte Riley co-stars as Princess and Tyler’s biological mother, Kat. Other notable members of the ensemble cast include BAFTA Award winner Darren Boyd, BAFTA Award nominee Siân Brooke, BAFTA Award nominee Celia Imrie, BAFTA Award nominee Phil Davis, BAFTA Award winner Gbemisola Ikumelo, and BAFTA Actor Award nominee Colin Morgan.
The upcoming season’s official synopsis:
“Season five finds Nikki (Esther Smith) and Jason (Rafe Spall) dealing with the consequences of Princess (Scarlett Rayner) and Tyler’s (Cooper Turner) biological mother, Kat (Charlotte Riley), turning up at their doorstep, and the whirlwind of chaos she brings into their settled family life.”
Ivor Novello Award-winning, Dublin-born, London-based artist and producer Orla Gartland provides the soundtrack for “Trying.” New original songs debut with each episode. The first episode premieres July 8 on Apple TV. A new episode arrives weekly through August 26. Viewers can catch up on the first four seasons, all of which are currently available on Apple TV.
