‘Leviticus’ Trailer: Homophobia, Religious Extremism & Desire Turn Deadly In Sundance Horror Breakout

Is hate more powerful than any monster? “Leviticus” explores how a society’s homophobia and religious extremes lead it to dangerous places. The film follows two young men as they discover their feelings for one another. Unfortunately, this romantic awakening happens in an area consumed by extremist Christian ideology. A religious leader’s absurd attempt at conversion therapy instead unleashes an unknown being. The boys soon discover the strange entity uses what they desire the most to wreak havoc. “Leviticus” premiered at the 2026 Sundance Film Festival, playing several months later at SXSW.

Adrian Chiarella writes and directs the upcoming horror film. The filmmaker previously helmed episodes of “Five Bedrooms” and “Totally Completely Fine.” His work on “Leviticus” has drawn critical praise. The Playlist’s Gregory Ellwood noted Chiarella’s outstanding approach to the material during his Sundance review. “Chiarella has found an in by centering the narrative on a potentially tragic love story. And, in doing so, has crafted a riveting work that will haunt you for days,” Ellwood wrote.

Leviticus” brings together a talented cast. Joe Bird and Stacy Clausen portray young lovers Naim and Ryan. Bird played Riley in the well-received horror title “Talk to Me.” Clausen appears in the recently released Netflix film “Thrash.” Mia Wasikowska, Jeremy Blewitt, Ewen Leslie, and Davida McKenzie also star in the forthcoming project.
