‘I Promise We’re Cool’: Lord Miller Produces Universal’s High School Sci-Fi Comedy From ‘Found Footage’ Director Max Tzannes

The dynamic duo of Christopher Miller and Phil Lord is backing a new sci-fi high school comedy at Universal Pictures called “I Promise We’re Cool,” coming off their massive success of “Project Hail Mary” starring Ryan Gosling. They’ll be producing the “high concept” feature that hails from actor/writer Charlie Hall (son of Julia Louis-Dreyfus, who is new to studio screenwriting) and “Found Footage” director Max Tazannes.

Plot and character details are being kept under lock and key; however, The Hollywood Reporter article adds that the mysterious project is perfectly matched for Lord and Miller’s brand of comedy. We could only theorize that it could be either involving aliens or time-travel, but that’s simply taking a shot in the dark with the bare bones information to work with, at the moment. Although we likely won’t have to wait too much longer to learn more about the gestating genre comedy.

Lord/Miller is producing “I Promise We’re Cool” as part of their banner Lord Miller‘s first-look deal with the studio, alongside Aditya Sood (“Deadpool,” “The Martian,” “Project Hail Mary) and Lucy Kitada (“Project Hail Mary,” “Under the Silver Lake”). A great producing team assembled here, for sure.

Other Lord/Miller projects in the past include the two-hander undercover cop “Jump Street” movies led by Channing Tatum and Jonah Hill, “The Lego Movie,” “The Lego Batman Movie,” “The Sheep Detectives,” “Cocaine Bear,” “The Afterparty,” the “Spider-Verse” trilogy (first installment won the Best Animated Feature Film Oscar) and Nicolas Cage‘s first big major TV role with Prime‘s big Marvel Comics show “Spider-Noir.”

We’ll have to wait to learn about the cast for “I Promise We’re Cool,” as nobody has been named for the project, but we wouldn’t be terribly shocked if they attempt to recruit veteran and on-the-rise comedy talent for main roles.
