Is Shah Latif ready for a life-changing role? “Bait” follows the struggling actor as he faces inquisitive family members, curious friends, and a spiraling crisis over one audition. The comedy sees Academy Award winner Riz Ahmed take on several duties, including starring as Latif. Ahmed and Ben Karlin are series showrunners. The pair additionally serve as executive producers.
Karlin brings an impressive comedy background to the project. He was head writer on “The Daily Show” and went on to co-create “The Colbert Report.” More recently, he wrote several episodes of “Minx.”
Ahmed brings together an outstanding cast for “Bait.” Guz Khan, Sheeba Chaddha, Sajid Hasan, Aasiya Shah, Weruche Opia, and Ritu Arya star alongside the series creator. Shah voices Mary Bennet in the Audible Original adaptation of Jane Austen’s “Pride & Prejudice.” Opia co-starred on the critically acclaimed series “I May Destroy You” and appeared on an episode of “Black Mirror.”
The series’ official synopsis from Prime Video:
“From Oscar and Emmy winner Riz Ahmed comes Bait, a comedy about Shah Latif, a struggling actor. His last chance to hit it big comes in the form of an audition of a lifetime. We follow him over the course of four wild days as his life spirals out of control and his family, ex-lover, and the entire world weigh in on whether he is the right man for the job.”
An audition proves to be more than one actor bargained for on “Bait.” The upcoming series is produced by Jax Media and Amazon MGM Studios. Its entire six-episode season premieres on Prime Video on March 25. Watch the new trailer below.
