What is the real cost of prioritizing stock prices and billionaires over the average person? “Omaha” focuses on a father and his two daughters during the 2008 economic crisis. The film’s journey forces audiences to confront hard truths as the family delves deeper into a dire situation. Cole Webley’s directorial debut hails from a screenplay by Robert Machoian.
A strong cast helps “Omaha” meet its potential. John Magaro stars as the beleaguered father, with Molly Belle Wright and Wyatt Solis portraying the family’s two children. Talia Balsam and Christina Cooper also turn in outstanding performances.
A 2025 Sundance Film Festival selection, “Omaha” participated in the festival’s U.S. Dramatic Competition. The critical reaction after its premiere was strong, praising the acting, directing, and screenplay. The Playlist’s Marshall Shaffer called the film a “tremendous showcase” for leading man Magaro’s talent. “He’s a steady hand behind the wheel through moments of trauma and triumph alike, bringing an unvarnished naturalism to a stoic character that never tips into sparseness for the sake of style alone,” Shaffer wrote.
The film’s official synopsis:
