How do you stop a killing machine? The government’s newest weapons wreak havoc in “Onslaught.” The A24 film sees a squad of super soldiers terrorize citizens. A former sniper with ties to one of the renegade figures soon finds herself targeted. She’ll rely on well-honed skills to protect her young daughter. The upcoming project is directed by Adam Wingard (“Godzilla Vs Kong”), who wrote the screenplay with Simon Barrett. It’s a notable pairing for horror fans as the duo have collaborated on “You’re Next,” “Blair Witch,” and various segments of the “V/H/S” franchise. The latter remains a must-watch among popular anthology titles.

Adria Arjona stars as the former sniper seeking a quiet life. The actress recently drew praise for her work on “Andor.” She also garnered attention for her performance in Richard Linklater’s 2023 film “Hit Man.” Rebecca Hall, Dan Stevens, and Michael Biehn co-star with Arjona in the upcoming “Onslaught.” Hall can be seen on the forthcoming Starz series “The Listeners.” She previously helmed and wrote the Sundance hit “Passing.” Stevens is a frequent Wingard collaborator, having worked with the filmmaker on “The Guest” and “Godzilla X Kong: The New Empire.” He is currently appearing on the AMC+/Shudder series “The Terror: Devil In Silver.”
The film’s official synopsis:
“When a rogue squad of genetically engineered super soldiers breaks loose in the desert, a badass Army sniper must unleash hell to protect her young daughter.”
After many years in the “Godzilla” big-budget trenches, it’s nice to see Wingard back into the bread-and-butter thrillers that he made his reputation on in the first place. So now, it’s a mother who fights against a brutal squad of soldiers in “Onslaught.” The film premieres in theaters on September 4. Get your first look at the trailer below.
