Can a tape capture our fears? The “V/H/S” franchise continues to thrill audiences with “V/H/S/Halloween.” This new entry in the series sees viewers confront a spine-chilling set of stories, each one memorable in their own right. As the title indicates, the anthology features a Halloween theme with subjects like diy haunts and candy greed taking center stage. Fans got their first look at the finished film during this year’s Fantastic Fest.
“V/H/S” brings together a mix of horror newcomers, fan favorites, and surprising figures. Each one offers a unique perspective through writing and/or directing duties. Segments in the upcoming film include “Diet Phantasma” directed by Bryan M. Ferguson, “Fun Size” directed by Casper Kelly, “Home Haunt” directed by Micheline Pitt-Norman & R.H. Norman, “Kidprint” directed by Alex Ross Perry, “Ut Supra Sic Infra” directed by Paco Plaza, and “Coochie Coochie Coo” directed by Anna Zlokovic.
Alex Ross Perry is an especially intriguing choice, having previously directed “Pavements” and “Listen Up Phillip.” His time as an employee of the famed Kim’s Video seems to permeate into the segment’s aesthetic subtly. It also triggers a vivid memory for those ‘80s kids whose stranger danger-obsessed parents flocked to child fingerprinting and videos.
The film’s official synopsis:
“A collection of Halloween-themed videotapes unleashes a series of twisted, blood-soaked tales, turning trick-or-treat into a struggle for survival.”
Roy Lee, Steven Schneider, Derek Dauchy, Josh Goldbloom, Michael Schreiber, and Brad Miska serve as producers on “V/H/S/Halloween.” The film premieres on Shudder on October 3. Watch the new trailer below.
