'I Wanna Dance With Somebody' Trailer: Naomi Ackie Stars In The Whitney Houston Music Biopic

Whitney Houston is getting the biopic treatment with “I Wanna Dance with Somebody.” The highly anticipated film — from director Kasi Lemmons — covers the musical icon’s legendary life and her tragic death at age 48. It also promises to feature songs that built her career, while ensuring her status among beloved artists. “Bohemian Rhapsody” co-writer Anthony McCarten takes on writing duties; the screenwriter’s work extends to “The Theory of Everything” as well as “Darkest Hour.” 

Notable among the list of producers is Pat Houston and Clive Davis. Houston, sister-in-law to the singer, also acted as her manager. Davis played an even more important role in Whitney Houston’s life, discovering the artist and helping guide a career that spanned almost 30 years. Davis is portrayed in the movie by actor Stanley Tucci.

Naomi Ackie stars as the influential pop icon. With credits in “Master of None” and “The End of the F***ing World,” this promises to be her biggest role to date. She’s joined by an outstanding cast that includes Ashton Sanders, Tamara Tunie, Nafessa Williams, and Clarke Peters
