'Masters Of The Universe: Revelation' Trailer: Kevin Smith Helps The Power Of Grayskull Return In July

Netflix is bringing viewers back to Eternia with “Masters of the Universe: Revelation.” The series marks the first new episodes to be produced in over 20 years. However, unlike other attempts to change or alter the entire franchise, this project stays true to its roots. The premiere episode promises the familiar as “…a cataclysmic battle between He-Man and Skeletor leaves Eternia fractured and the Guardians of Grayskull scattered throughout the land. Now it’s up to Teela to reunite the broken band of heroes and ultimately prevent the end of the universe.” From there, the storylines entail surprising alliances, changes, and growth among some of animation’s most well-known figures.

The series’ iconic look remains roughly the same, with a few updates for modern audiences; producers teamed up with Powerhouse Animation to create something that would be superior without sacrificing the striking action. In addition, the use of lighting and atmosphere offers an added sense of realism.

Filmmaker Kevin Smith is acting as showrunner for the series. His work on ‘Revelation’ is also geared towards the adults who grew up with Castle Grayskull. “I’m really not that creative. I would not be the guy you’d tap to reinvent something,” Smith said in an interview with i09. “But if you want to keep it going lovingly, true to the franchise and just growing up the characters a little bit, so their conversations are a little more adult-oriented? [I’m your guy.].”

Smith has recruited an impressive list of voice talent for the project. Mark Hamill leads the cast as the villainous Skeletor. Lena Headey joins him as Evil-Lyn, Sarah Michelle Gellar as Teela, and Chris Wood as Prince Adam/He-Man. In addition, the classic cartoon gets its own nod as Alan Oppenheimer, the original voice of Skeletor and other popular characters, comes back to voice Moss Man.

The quest to rule Eternia continues in “Masters of the Universe: Revelation.” The animated series premieres on Netflix on July 23. Get your first look at the animated adventure below.
