Loud, stupid, and crass, “Super Troopers” was never under delusions of what it was supposed to be: a deeply quotable stoner comedy with no interest in refinement. Somehow, that was enough to turn it into a cult institution. “Super Troopers 3” understands that legacy, and the first trailer leans right into it with Farva’s wedding chaos, family sabotage, and another drug-ring mess for the Broken Lizard crew to fumble through—all of it arriving, fittingly enough, arriving on 4/20.
This time, the sequel folds a family disaster into the usual law-enforcement idiocy. Farva’s wildly over-the-top Indian engagement to Thorny’s sister starts spiraling out of control, Thorny begins scheming to break up the relationship, and the troopers are also trying to crack a new drug ring at the same time. Saving the case and saving the wedding, apparently, become part of the same job.
Jay Chandrasekhar directs, Broken Lizard wrote the screenplay, and Rich Perello produces. The cast includes Chandrasekhar, Kevin Heffernan, Steve Lemme, Paul Soter, Erik Stolhanske, Hannah Simone, Nat Faxon, Chace Crawford, Andrew Dismukes, Marisa Coughlan, Jon Rudnitsky, Lisa Gilroy, Sakina Jaffrey, Iqbal Theba, and Brian Cox.
That is the right lane for this series, and there’s no need for reinvention. The appeal was always highway nonsense, weed-friendly chaos, personal grudges, and a group of officers too dumb to recognize how bad they are at their jobs. The trailer appears to know the audience is showing up for exactly that.
