‘Pretty Lethal’ Trailer: Maddie Ziegler, Lana Condor & Uma Thurman Lead A Deadly Ballet-Fu Survival Thriller At SXSW

A broken-down bus, a remote roadside inn, and a group of dancers who barely trust each other is already a strong setup. “Pretty Lethal” pushes it one step further—turning elite ballet training into survival tactics as five young ballerinas fight to stay alive after taking shelter in the wrong place.

Set to world premiere at SXSW, the action-thriller streams globally on Prime Video on March 25, 2026. Directed by Vicky Jewson, the film stars Maddie Ziegler, Lana Condor, Iris Apatow, Avantika, Millicent Simmonds, and Uma Thurman.

The official synopsis centers on five ballerinas traveling to a prestigious dance competition when their bus breaks down in a remote forest. Forced to find shelter, they end up at an unsettling roadside inn run by Devora Kasimer, a reclusive former ballet prodigy played by Thurman. From there, the situation turns deadly, and the dancers have to stop competing with one another long enough to survive—using grace, discipline, and even pointe shoes as weapons.

That hook is the movie’s best sell: not just “ballerinas in danger,” but ballerinas applying a highly specialized physical vocabulary to action and horror mechanics. Jewson leans into that in her statement on the film, describing the movie as a chance to bring “the highly specific skillset of a ballerina to the action space,” while building a genre mash-up that swings between horror, comedy, and action. The promised tone sounds intentionally heightened, with “ballet-fu,” sisterhood, and survival all packed into the same pressure cooker.

The film is written by Kate Freund and produced by Kelly McCormick, Mike Karz, William Bindley, and Piers Tempest. Supporting cast includes Michael Culkin and Lydia Leonard. Paul Leonard-Morgan composed the score, with Bridger Nielson serving as director of photography.

For a streaming thriller, “Pretty Lethal” is pitching something distinct right out of the gate: a contained survival setup, a young ensemble, Thurman in ominous host mode, and a ballet-action angle that could give the film its own bruised, stylized lane.

“Pretty Lethal” premieres at SXSW before streaming globally on Prime Video March 25, 2026.
