Hollywood comedies do not tend to get premises this blunt anymore, but David Wain has never been especially useful as a practitioner of restraint. His new film, “Gail Daughtry and the Celebrity Sex Pass,” arrives this summer with a title that tells you almost everything and a cast that suggests the joke keeps escalating.

Sony Pictures Classics has released a new teaser for the comedy, starring Zoey Deutch as Gail Daughtry, a small-town hairdresser engaged to her devoted high school sweetheart, Tom. Gail’s life blows up after a trip to a book signing leads Tom to meet—and sleep with—his “celebrity pass.” Reeling from the betrayal, Gail impulsively heads to Los Angeles with her friend Otto, where a psychic convinces her that the only way to save her marriage is to “even the scales” with her own celebrity pass: Jon Hamm.
From there, the film becomes a Los Angeles chase comedy, with Gail and Otto teaming up with a talent agency assistant, a paparazzo, and actor John Slattery as they try to find Hamm. Naturally, things do not stay that simple. The journey also involves celebrity run-ins, Hollywood weirdos, and a group of Italian assassins tracking them down as Gail gets closer to her target (read our review).
Wain directed the film and co-wrote it with Ken Marino, continuing a long-running comic partnership that stretches back through “Wet Hot American Summer” and “Role Models.” Marino also appears in the film, alongside Miles Gutierrez-Riley, Ben Wang, Sabrina Impacciatore, Joe Lo Truglio, Tobie Windham, Mather Zickel, Matthew Jayson Cwern, Kerri Kenney-Silver, Thomas Lennon, Fred Melamed, Michael Cassidy, Michael Ian Black, Richard Kind, and Zac Oyama.
The film already has festival momentum. “Gail Daughtry and the Celebrity Sex Pass” was an official selection of the 2026 Sundance Film Festival and will screen at the 2026 Tribeca Festival on June 10 before heading into theaters next month.
