‘It’s Not Like That’ Trailer: Scott Foley & Erinn Hayes Finds Grief, Healing, & A Second Shot At Love In Prime Video’s Feel-Good Dramedy Series

Scott Foley stars as a widowed pastor finding his way through parenthood, loss, and an unexpected new connection.

There is no straight line to recovery and healing with grief, and “It’s Not Like That” leans into the messy, tender spaces where loss, family, and new affection start to overlap. Prime Video has released the trailer for the new family drama series starring Scott Foley, which launches globally on May 15, 2026. Foley plays Malcolm, a recently widowed pastor and father of three who is trying to keep his home steady after a loss. Erinn Hayes co-stars as Lori, a newly divorced mother of two teens whose family has long been close with Malcolm’s.

The series follows Malcolm and Lori as they navigate their newly single lives while raising children, managing grief, and trying to figure out whether their deepening bond is still friendship or something else. The official hook puts it plainly: Is this the beginning of a love story? “It’s not like that.” Or is it?

Created by Ian Deitchman and Kristin Robinson, whose previous work includes “Life As We Know It” and “Parenthood,” the series aims for the same warm, accessible territory: family drama with romantic complications, generational friction, and enough humor to keep the grief from swallowing the room.

The supporting cast includes J.R. Ramirez as David Soto, Caleb Baumann as Merritt Soto, Cary Christopher as Justin Jeffries, Leven Miranda as Flora Jeffries, Liv Lindell as Casey Soto, and Cassidy Paul as Penelope Jeffries.

Deitchman and Robinson also serve as showrunners alongside executive producer Garrett Lerner. Additional executive producers include Jon Erwin, Justin Rosenblatt, and Jon Gunn for Wonder Project; Foley; Brad Silberling and Alex Goldstone for 42; and Anonymous Content and Kingdom Story Company. Amazon MGM Studios produce the series.
