'Thor' Casting Rumors Begin: Harnett As Loki? Skarsgård As Asgard's Hero?

By now you’ve probably hear the rumors that Alex Skarsgård (son of Stellan Skarsgård) is being considered for the role of “Thor” in the titular Norse God role of the Marvel comic book film already scheduled for a July 16, 2010 release date.

Kenneth Branagh is directing (so far anyhow, it still appears to be in development) and now the latest rumors via IESB, claim Josh Hartnett is being eyed for the role of Thor’s brother, Loki, a mischievous Deity of lies, shape-shifting and other nefarious deeds.

A couple of our contribs have read the “Thor” script and say it’s a gigantic tome, again in development and constantly changing and somewhat problematic (they need to somehow figure out how to tie the “Lord Of The Rings” fantasy-like aspect and its conclusion to “The Avengers” movie). Skarsgård was excellent in David Simon’s “Generation Kill” and has proved he can act. Harnett we don’t like so much, but he’s proven himself from time to time and a gleeful villain might be a nice change of pace for him.

We’re not invested much, but again, we’d rather the quality of all comic-book films be in the “Iron Man”/”The Dark Knight” range and not so much in the “Watchmen,” subpar arena that some are puzzlingly very satisfied with. File all of these possible casting choices under rumor and in-development.
