‘The House Of The Spirits’ Trailer: Isabel Allende’s Landmark Novel Finally Gets A Sweeping TV Adaptation At Prime Video

The first TV screen adaptation of Isabel Allende’s iconic novel arrives April 29, with Prime Video rolling out the eight-episode Spanish-language series weekly.

For years, Isabel Allende’s “The House of the Spirits” has felt like one of those major literary works waiting for the right adaptation—too expansive, too politically loaded, and too deeply rooted in family memory to be treated lightly. Now, Prime Video is finally bringing it to the screen.

The streamer has released the official trailer for “The House of the Spirits,” the first television adaptation of Allende’s landmark novel, with the Spanish-language series set to premiere globally on April 29. The eight-episode drama will debut with its first three episodes, followed by weekly installments, with the final three episodes landing on May 13.

Set in a conservative South American country shaped by class tension, political upheaval, and the quiet intrusion of the mystical, the story spans roughly half a century, centering on three generations of women—Clara, Blanca, and Alba—as their lives intersect with the rise and fall of power around them. That mix of intimate family drama and national history is the backbone of Allende’s novel, which tracks how personal lives are shaped—and often scarred—by larger political forces.

Alfonso Herrera (“Rebel Moon”) leads the series as Esteban Trueba, the domineering patriarch whose ambition and control ripple through generations. At the same time, Nicole Wallace (“Our Fault”) and Dolores Fonzi (“Belén”) portray Clara del Valle at different stages of her life. The ensemble also includes Fernanda Castillo (“The Lord of the Skies”) as Férula, Aline Kuppenheim (“A Fantastic Woman”) as Nivea del Valle, Eduard Fernández (“The Skin I Live In”) as Severo del Valle, Sara Becker and Fernanda Urrejola (“Cry Macho”) as Blanca, Rochi Hernández as Alba, Juan Pablo Raba (“News of a Kidnapping”) as Tío Marcos, and Pablo Macaya and Nicolás Contreras as Pedro Tercero.

Behind the camera, the project is anchored by a mix of literary and industry experience. Allende executive produces alongside Eva Longoria (“Flamin’ Hot”) and Courtney Saladino, with Francisca Alegría (“The Cow Who Sang a Song Into the Future”), Urrejola, and Andrés Wood (“News of a Kidnapping”) serving as showrunners. The series is produced by FilmNation Entertainment (“Anora,” “Conclave”) with support from Fabula (“A Fantastic Woman,” “The Eternal Memory”), giving the adaptation both global reach and regional grounding.

The material itself sets a high bar. “The House of the Spirits” isn’t just a multi-generational drama—it’s a story about power, patriarchy, class, and memory, with magical realism woven into its emotional and political fabric. The challenge here is scale without flattening, translating something deeply interior and historically specific into a form that can carry both its intimacy and its sweep.
