Some relationship retreats are about rebuilding trust. “Over Your Dead Body” treats the whole premise like a cover story, with the official trailer teasing Jorma Taccone’s (“Popstar: Never Stop Never Stopping,” “MacGruber”) dark action-comedy thriller about a dysfunctional couple who head to a remote cabin to supposedly reconnect—but each arrives with secret plans to kill the other.

The film stars Jason Segel and Samara Weaving as the couple at the center of the mutual-assassination détente, with Timothy Olyphant and Juliette Lewis also starring. The supporting cast includes Paul Guilfoyle and Keith Jardine, rounding out a lineup that suggests the movie is aiming for a sharp blend of tension and punchline cruelty.
Taccone directs from a screenplay by Nick Kocher and Brian McElhaney, with producers Kelly McCormick, David Leitch, Aram Tertzakian, Nick Spicer, Guy Danella, and Lee Kim. The executive producers include Tommy Wirkola, among others, and the film is produced by 87North, XYZ, and Resolute Films. Behind the camera, Matthew Weston serves as director of photography, with editor Jeremy Cohen, production designer Joseph A. Hodges, costume designer Ninna Päiväläinen, and casting director Melissa Kostenbauder also on board.
“Jorma Taccone stands as one of the most creative and reliably brilliant voices in comedy, and we are delighted to collaborate with him and our friends at 87North, XYZ, and Resolute Films on OVER YOUR DEAD BODY,” said Head of Independent Film Group Scott Shooman. “The film is a dark, twisted, and riotous action comedy, with a killer cast – a perfect recipe to delight audiences on the big screen.”
Release-wise, “Over Your Dead Body” world premieres at SXSW on March 14, 2026, then opens in theaters everywhere on April 24, 2026. It’s a clean, high-concept setup with a nasty edge: the weekend is framed as reconciliation, but every tender gesture is potentially a feint—and the real question becomes which secret plan cracks first.
