Got a Tip?

‘Mama’s Boy’ Soundtrack Features The Jam, Generation X, The English Beat and Mark Mothersbaugh Original Score

So the “Mama’s Boy” soundtrack hits stores tomorrow (November 27). Who? What? Where? Yeah, exactly. “Mama’s Boy” is a 2008 comedy that stars Jon Heder, Diane Keaton, Anna Faris and Jeff Daniels. Why is the soundtrack out now and the film doesn’t come out until sometime in 2008? And why haven’t you heard anything about it?

Smells like poor testing, a film that got pushed back and a studio that doesn’t really care (Warner Independent), but you know, we could be wrong (it’s pure speculation on our part). But all signs point to: this movie is terrible (see: the trailer; hey, it does star Jon Heder). The film’s official website still has the release date as November 30 (an out of date site for a film not yet released doesn’t bode well), but it doesn’t look to be on the docket anytime soon. UPDATE: Apparently this film is still due November 30. Evidently Warner Independent just forgot to market it to anyone. Ok, then.

Regardless, the soundtrack for the album is decent with nice classics by the Jam, Billy Bragg, The English Beat and Generation X, but is also notable for its original score by frequent Wes Anderson-collaborator Mark Mothersbaugh. We’ve provided some clips below for those wondering what the ex-Devo founder was up to while not composing music for Anderson’s “The Darjeeling Limited.”

Trainspotters might also want to note the inclusion of unconventional and eclectic (read: difficult) Canadian cult band The Rheostatics which will tickle the 5,000 people on Earth who consider the band the most brilliant thing since the sun began to shine (there are those out there).
