Entire 'I'm Not There' Concert Streaming Online - RIP Mr. Jones

By now you’ve heard the “I’m Not There” concert we weren’t at is streaming online in its entirety. No offense to the parties involved, but every first-hand account we’ve received from it was lackluster with tons of stage and waiting issues.

That said, I’m sure we’ll give it a listen and you should too. Not much else to say about this one. Have at it if you’re interested.

The line-up featured My Morning Jacket’s Jim James,Yo La Tengo Calexico, The Roots, Joe Henry (he produced much of the soundtrack disc), Ian Ball and Olly Peacock (of Gomez), John Doe, Mason Jennings and the Million Dollar Bashers (need we remind you, their supergroup membership includes: Sonic Youth’s Lee Ranaldo, Bob Dylan bassist Tony Garnier, Sonic Youth drummer Steve Shelley, ex-Television founder Tom Verlaine, keyboardist John Medeski (from Martin, Medeski and Wood), guitarist Smokey Hormel (of Smokey & Miho) and Wilco avante-guitarist Nels Cline – Nels wasn’t there) and more.

Apparently Cat Power never showed up to this one as was originally scheduled.

The Requiem of Mr. Jones?
Of more interest is the news that the journalist/intern – Jeffrey Owen Jones – who apparently inspired Dylan’s legendary media-bashing song, “Ballad Of A Thin Man,” died of lung cancer… two weeks ago.

“I was thrilled — in the tainted way I suppose a felon is thrilled to see his name in the newspaper,” Jones wrote in a story for Rolling Stone much later. “I was awed too that Dylan had so accurately read my mind. I resented the caricature but had to admit that there was something happening there at Newport in the summer of 1965, and I didn’t know what it was.”

According to Editor & Publisher, “I’m Not There” is not doing so hot at the boxoffice, but did people seriously think this limited release was going to compete against family fare during the Thanksgiving holiday weekend? Give it some time…
