To those that say we don’t write enough movie-music coverage: a bunch of soundtracks come out today (August 5); “Elegy” a graceful love story starring Ben Kingsley and Penelope Cruz (its quite a good film, it comes out this weekend); the “Sisterhood Of The Traveling Pants 2” which once again stars Amber Tamblyn, Alexis Bledel, America Ferrera and Blake Lively; and the disc for Toby Keith’s “Beer For My Horses.”
“The “Elegy” soundtrack features sadsack trumpeter Chet Baker, American jazz singer Madeleine Peyroux, a few classic minmimalist piano tunes by Erik Satie as performed by David Troy Francis and one of our fave musicians, Colleen, the French experimental electro-acoustic artist on the Leaf label. It also contains the awesome Arvo Pärt minimalist tintinnabular piece, “Spiegel Im Spiegel.” It’s elegnant and chill.
