'80s College Rock Returns: 'Adventureland' Soundtrack Coming Out Digitally March 24, Features Lou Reed, Bowie, The VU, Yo La Tengo & More

We spoke and hung out with Greg Mottola recently (very nice dude) and we’re very excited for his film, “Adventureland,” hitting theaters April 3 via Miramax which stars Jesse Eisenberg, Kristen Stewart, Martin Starr, Bill Hader, Kristen Wiig and Ryan Reynolds. It also screens next week at the SXSW Film Festival in Austin starting March 15.

Set in the 1980s, the film’s music has a decidedly excellent college rock/ alt rock vibe (this is before they called it indie-rock) to soundtrack all its funny and bittersweet moments.

Mottola already gave us a listing of all the songs used in the movie and his own notes on each track too, but now the details on the “Adventureland” soundtrack “disc” has arrived too.

We say, “disc” because it’s a digital only affair (what isn’t these days?), the 14-track album which features two piece of Yo La Tengo’s original score, arrives on ITunes and other digital outlets on 3/24. The album also features classic cuts by David Bowie (“Modern Love”), Lou Reed (“Satellite of Love”), INXS (the excellent, “Don’t Change” which Greg wasn’t sure if he’d be able to clear or not, score), The Velvet Underground (“Pale Blue Eyes”), The Replacements, The Cure, Hüsker Dü and more.

“Adventureland” is a coming of age/first love dramedy set in the summer of 1987, centered around a recent college grad who has to take a menial summer job instead of following his post-grad dreams of a European trip. It stars Jesse Eisenberg, Kristen Stewart, Martin Starr, Bill Hader, Kristen Wiig, Ryan Reynolds and is due in theaters April 3 via Miramax. A few examples of audio below. Here’s two versions of the trailer if you happened to miss them.
