We’re pretty skeptical about the “Arrested Development” movie ever happening and we sort of gave up reporting on it. Last we heard, Michael Cera was caught saying he didn’t think it was necessary and it might not ever happen. And the show creator, Mitch Hurwitz has already moved on to other things (plus in July it was reported that any news of a “go” on the film was very “premature”).
But still some actors are holding strong to the idea. This time it’s not, Jason Bateman who has clung to the idea of a “Arrested Development” movie like his life depended on it. It’s Jeffrey Tambor, who played the patriarch of the family, George Bluth Sr, who insists the project is happening and Hurwitz is still onboard. Collider talked to Tambor and asked whether the project was dead, he responded with, “Well no, because we’re doing it. We are going. It’s a go. I just actually this week talked to Mitch Hurwitz, so we’re doing it.”
Pressed further, Tambor says he has concrete evidence that the project is moving forward. “When the writer calls you, the director and the executive producer calls you, it’s a pretty good sign.”
What can we say? Our excitement for this project has now evaporated because of the ups and downs. Plus we all know TV shows turned into feature-films rarely work. Maybe “Arrested Development” shouldn’t be tainted and left in our hearts on DVD.
