Morning ShortCuts: Brett Ratner, Evan Almighty, Zach Braff. Kill Bill 3 & 4?

“Evan Almighty” shits the bed with only $32 million dollars at the opening weekend box office numbers. Apparently this is a disaster of biblical proportions. Normally this is plenty for a comedy, but ‘Almighty’ cost a whopping $175 million. Apparently it needed $50 to set the track to recoup. Hope all that animal dung on set was worth it. [Yahoo]
– How fitting: chubby playboy wannabe Brett Ratner will direct “Playboy,” a biopic based on the life of Hugh Hefner. [Variety]
– Too busy to write a “Garden State” sequel? Zach Braff has been too busy directing professional phone shot putter Naomi Campbell in Dunkin Donuts commercials. [Vulture]

– Bruce “Are You Living Free?” Willis is apparently a big fan of Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, Architechture in Helsinki and the Strokes. [Stereogum]
– Bryan Singer out of “Superman II”? Brandon Routh told EW, “As far as I know, it’s going to be called “Superman: Man of Steel” The mag says it’s unclear whether Singer will return yet. [the Deal report doesn’t appear to be online at EW yet] Meanwhile, Variety asks if the completed Justice League script will usurp the aforementioned Super sequel. [Variety]
– Is Tarantino considering doing two more Kill Bill sequels? [CHUD] My Chinese language studying friend cautions, “It’s from a translation of a Chinese article. The Chinese press are worse than the UK for taking offhand remarks as statements of intent,” so take the news with a grain of salt.
