Got a Tip?

‘Batman’: Jonah Hill May Play The Riddler, Jeffrey Wright Eyed For Commissioner Gordon

There’s been a shroud of mystery surrounding Matt Reeves upcoming iteration of “The Batman,” for months, but now that Robert Pattinson has been revealed as the caped crusader, the veil of secrecy is lifting. Tonight, a gamut of sources are revealing many casting details about the upcoming Warner Bros. film.

First up, Variety has revealed that Jonah Hill is in talks for a “secret role” in the movie, but is unclear who he may be playing. But Collider has added to it and said Hill might be playing iconic Riddler character. The Hollywood Reporter has jumped into the mix and has said Reeves is eyeing Jeffrey Wright for the role of Commissioner Gordon, and the “Westworld” actor has seemingly confirmed the news on Twitter.

“The Batman,” as its currently called in its working title form, is rumored to feature a rogue’s gallery of Batman villains, so it is possible that actors could be announced as antagonists if those rumors hold.

Much like “Joker,” which it will not connect to according to that film’s director Todd Phillips, “The Batman” will be a semi stand-alone movie not connected to the current DCEU. This means, Pattinson’s Bruce Wayne won’t be crossing over with Gal Gadot’s Wonder Woman or Jason Momoa’s Aquaman, nor will he be taking over for Ben Affleck’s version of Batman (not that that would make much sense given the age difference). That said, while set in its own distinctive universe, “The Batman” with Pattinson could easily spawn a new trilogy if the film is a hit.

According to Variety, their source says, producers had long wanted Hill for the project, but casting decisions were put on hold until the role of Batman was filled. The deal hasn’t closed, but Hill his people are in discussions now.

There’s no start date or release date on “The Batman,” but the film could begin production as early as late 2019 or early 2020 which would likely mean a summer 2021 release. Time will tell.
