‘The Peripheral’ Trailer: Chloë Moretz Does Sci-Fi For ‘Westworld’ Creators Jonathan Nolan & Lisa Joy

Lisa Joy and Jonathan Nolan may have made themselves known as a Hollywood duo after the success of HBO’s “Westworld,” but soon into that run, they became so in demand that they signed a major deal with Amazon’s Prime Video. At the time, it seemed unclear what that would mean for “Westworld,” but it seems they’ve managed to keep everything concurrently running, “Westworld” is now on season four, and many Prime Video projects are in the works. The latest is “The Peripheral,” based on a science fiction mystery-thriller novel by legendary sci-fi writer William Gibson.

“The Peripheral” stars Chloë Grace Moretz and Jack Reynor and centers on Flynne Fisher (Moretz), a woman trying to hold together the pieces of her broken family in a forgotten corner of tomorrow’s America.

Here’s the official synopsis:

Flynne Fisher lives in the rural American South, working at the local 3D printing shop, while earning much-needed extra money playing VR games for rich people.  One night she dons a headset and finds herself in futuristic London—a sleek and mysterious world, alluringly different from her own hardscrabble existence.

But this isn’t like any game she’s ever played before:  Flynne begins to realize it isn’t virtual reality… it’s real.  Someone in London, seventy years in the future, has found a way to open a door to Flynne’s world.  And as utterly beguiling as London is… it’s also dangerous.  As Flynne searches to discover who has connected their worlds, and for what purpose, her presence here sets dangerous forces into motion…forces intent on destroying Flynne and her family in her own world.

The Peripheral is master storyteller William Gibson’s dazzling, hallucinatory glimpse into the fate of mankind—and what lies beyond.

“The Peripheral” also stars Gary Carr, Eli Goree, Louis Herthum, JJ Feild, T’Nia Miller, Charlotte Riley, Alexandra Billings, Adelind Horan, Alex Hernandez, Katie Leung, Julian Moore-Cook, Melinda Page Hamilton, Chris Coy, Amber Rose Revah and Austin Rising.

The series is produced by Amazon Studios and Warner Bros. Television in association with Kilter Films. In addition to Nolan and Joy, executive producers include Scott B. Smith, director Vincenzo Natali, Greg Plageman, Athena Wickham, and Steven Hoban.

“The Peripheral” premieres on Prime Video on October 21. Watch the first trailer below.
