“It was something that I enjoyed, but it shredded me. I went to places that I never thought I would ever go,” Jamie Foxx said, according to Bossip, about his role playing a paranoid schizophrenic cello prodigy in “The Soloist,” opposite Robert Downey Jr. “I just remember being in my bathroom broke down, talking to my manager, like, ‘I don’t know if I’ll be able to finish this.’ “
The Playlist response: No offense Jamie, but you weren’t that good. You think we’re joking, but we’re not. The performance and that meltdown don’t seem to connect. He’s done significantly more emotionally affecting work in at least his last three pictures.
We kind of hate to say this, frankly. “The Soloist” will need all the help it can get at the box-office this weekend (April 24) and it’s not terrible, but it’s just troubled melody that didn’t click with us at all.
