Another day another article where actor, sorry rapper, Joaquin Phoenix insists his new career is real and not a prank.
“There’s not a hoax,” Phoenix told the AP. “Might I be ridiculous? Might my career in music be laughable? Yeah, that’s possible, but that’s certainly not my intention.”
Casey Affleck was actually on hand with a camera crew, shooting the hip-hop…hopeful during the interview. Phoenix said he has no intention of returning to film after “Two Lovers,” his last film which comes out Feb 13.
Phoenix says he’s bummed that his first performance made it onto the Internet. “It sucks that, yeah, the footage is out there as like this incredibly bad sound, and you literally can’t hear what’s happening. It was much better in the club, and I don’t know who said that people were booing … because that was not happening.”
Phoenix has been doing press for “Two Lovers,” but has been insisting no cameras other than Affleck’s and journos have to use audio devices instead. In an interview with MTV, he said quitting acting was a natural step and was on the horizon, “I threaten myself with quitting after every movie. [Retiring] is something that I’ve thought about for a long time. … In some ways, I felt like I needed to make a statement really for myself, in terms of quitting [acting]. I didn’t realize it was going to be such a big deal. I thought nobody would give a f—, really, to be frank.”
You have to admire his cockroach-like tenacity to stick to this joke. At least James Gray’s “Two Lovers” is receiving real press.
