Bryce Dallas Howard’s ‘The Loss Of a Teardrop Diamond’ Finally Scores U.S. Distribution

New distribution company Paladin have announced they’ve picked up Bryce Dallas Howard-starrer “The Loss Of a Teardrop Diamond,” about a Memphis debutante in the 1920s, and based on an unproduced screenplay by Tennessee Williams. Rope of Silicon float the idea of a Best Actress nomination for Howard (and Paladin seem to be banking on it, already booking an awards qualifying run in L.A. in December) but, as they acknowledge, the decidedly lukewarm early reviews they quote seem to make this very unlikely.

Still, the prospect of unseen work by the great playwright, and a solid supporting cast including Chris Evans and Ellen Burstyn, mean we won’t write it off just yet. This picture, much like Richard Linklater’s “Me & Orson Welles,” is a film that screened last year at the Toronto International Film Festival and is finally gaining distribution a year later. Better late then never we suppose, but not always a sign that studios are clamoring to put it out.
