'Get Him To The Greek' IS The 'Sarah Marshall' Spin-off/ "Sequel"

Yesterday we saw this confusing, clueless report from the U.K. that said, British comedian Russell Brand would reprise his Aldous Snow character in a “sequel” to the Jason Segel-penned Judd Apatow comedy, “Forgetting Sarah Marshall.”

We were a little perplexed. Did they mean, “Five Year Engagement“, another project to be helmed by ‘Sarah Marshall’ director Nicholas Stoller? What film could this be? After all, this same report then said, “another film” that Brand would be starring in would also feature him as a “out-of-control rock star” – “Get Him To The Greek,” another Apatow-produced flick co-starring Jonah Hill, so that counted that one out, yeah?

We’ve never hid our disdain for the British press and here’s why: they suck. The fine movie bloggers at CHUD broke the code when they talked to Judd Apatow (lucky bastards). It turns out “Get Me To the Greek” is the ‘Sarah Marshall,’ spin-off, but note, it’s not really a sequel.

As originally reported, ‘Greek’ was supposed to be a very dirty take on Cameron Crowe’s ’70s rock classic and paean to his Rolling Stone youth, “Almost Famous.” It will be about a fresh-out-of-college insurance adjuster (Hill) hired to accompany an out-of-control rock star (Brand) from London to a gig at L.A.’s Greek Theater. Well, you guessed it, that rock star is still Aldous Snow and according to the CHUD/Apatow conversation, he’s now fallen off the wagon (he’s completely sober in ‘Sarah Marshall’ you’ll recall) and it’s little Jonah Hill’s job to get him to the gig on time. CHUD says they’re unaware if Hill will also reprise his sycophantic role from ‘Sarah Marshall,’ (cause they didn’t ask), but it does seem doubtful (and would probably be too much).

Stoller wrote the script, again he’ll direct. Stoller told Variety at the time, ”Even though [Brand and Hill] are such different actors with different styles, I thought there could be a great buddy comedy there.”

All’s well that ends well, but god people (not CHUD), learn how to fucking report already, sheesh.
