Andy Serkis To Star In Ian Dury Biopic, 'Sex & Drugs & Rock & Roll'

A choice assortment of U.K. talent have signed on for a biopic of British rock star Ian Dury titled, “Sex & Drugs and Rock N’ Roll.”

First and foremost is the Andy Serkis, erstwhile CGI-facialist for Peter Jackson (Golem in the “LOTR”series, “King Kong”), who goes from sideplayer to one of his most prominent leading roles.

Other Brit thesps who have joined the cast include Ray Winstone, Olivia Williams, Naomie Harris, Noel Clarke, Toby Jones, MacKenzie Crook and Bill Milner.

Dury came up in the late ’70s during the punk/ new wave period with his group, Ian Dury and the Blockheads, who’s titluar 1977 single coined the famous phrase, “Sex & Drugs & Rock & Roll.” The Blockheads will be played by lesser-known British actors, Arthur Darvill, James Jagger, Tom Hughes, Shakraj Soornack, Clifford Samuel and Joe Kennedy.

Polio-stricken at a young age, Dury died of cancer 10 years ago next year which make the timing of the biopic rather perfect. [Variety]
