Reports Claim 'Sin City 2' Shooting Next Year

So “Sin City 2.” Every time this project comes up anyone in the know generally rolls their eyes and with good reason.

Robert Rodriguez has been busy with several projects, is in the middle of editing “Machete,” while producing “Predators” and writing the script for “Spy Kids 4.”

This latest report by Mania (via MTV) says production will begin in the second half of 2010. That seems doubtful, but it’s not impossible. While “Sin City 2,” did seem dead for a long time, talk has started up again.

Put it this way. Recent trade reports have suggested Dimension films (aka the financial ailing Weinstein Company) wants to get back into the non-risk, money-making business, hence them reviving old franchises, the upcoming “Scream 4” reboot/redo, whatever you wanna call it and the aforementioned “Spy Kids 4.”

We’re not going to waste time regurgitating the quotes here even if they do come from actors like Clive Owen (if you rely on actors to tell you much about this project it would have shot three times over by now and they’d be on “Sin City 4”), but what was once a dead project (or one that Rodriguez was potentially disinterested in) is now back on the table.

But watch the route he’s going, producing “Predators” and not directing? “Sin City 2,” talk has started, but whether it happens by “mid 2010” or whether Rodriguez actually directs it or not is something that won’t even become clear until “Spy Kids 4” starts to really take shape. Mid 2010 is June, 2010. We wouldn’t put our money down on that date if we were you. This Mania report says Miller will co-direct with Rodriguez once again. Don’t be surprised if that’s correct with Miller taking the brunt or all of the directing choirs.

As for “Neverwracker” and “Jetsons,” they’re not franchises so TWC/Dimension won’t be asking for them anytime soon. They could still happen, but they’re not on the docket for the next 12 months.
