San Francisco Film Society Hosting '13 Most Beautiful...Songs For Andy Warhol's Screen Test'

On February 3rd, the San Fransisco Film Society will be hosting the “13 Most Beautiful…Songs For Andy Warhol’s Screen Test.” The show features 13 selected screen test from the hundreds that Warhol filmed with a stationary 16-mm black and white camera in his New York studio.

The films, distinctive for their key lit portraits of socialites, movie stars, poets and musicians captured in 2 minute soundless increments, are rarely seen despite their cult-fame status. The Screen Test are projected in slow motion, stretching each segment from 2 to 4 minutes while slowing down and exaggerating the movements of each subject.

The multimedia show featuring Screen Test is accompanied by a soundtrack almost entirely composed by y Dean Wareham and Britta Phillips, alumni of the indie-rock group Luna. Non-original songs featured in the performance are Bob Dylan’s “I’ll Keep It With Mine,” and the Velvet Underground’s “I’m Not a Young Man Anymore,” which plays during the screen shot that features a young Lou Reed.

The New York Times loved the show when it visited the Allen Center, so if you happen to be in the San Francisco area don’t miss the opportunity to check out this rare performance.
