Bong Joon-Ho's 'Mother' Hits U.S. March 2010, Post-Apocalyptic 'Snow Piercer' Is Coming Next

One of our favorite directors working today, another South Korean auteur, Bong Joon-Ho (“The Host,” “Memories of Murder”) has another project in the works.

He may have just finished and released the absurdist noir, murder mystery, “Mother” — which will be released March 2010 via Magnet Films according to a publicist we just spoke to — at Cannes (and it turned out to be one of our favorites from the festival), but apparently there is no rest for the prolific filmmaker.

His next project is now titled, “Snow Piercer,” and is based on a post-apocalyptic graphic novel from France called, “Le Transperceneige,” about a group of people on a train without a final destination, struggling to survive after the end of the world brings on a cataclysmic ice age.

Joon-Ho actually wanted to make the film before his 2005 international break-out monster movie, “The Host,” but was forced to wait due to unspecified issues.

“Snow Piercer” is expected to shoot sometime in 2011 which is a ways off, but he’s apparently still writing it.

His sophomore film, “Memories Of Murder,” is masterpiece of modern cinema, wickedly funny, profound, shocking, touching and awe-inspiring and all his films, including the most recent “Mother,” always seem to have these ambitious, sweeping scopes that cover many, many tones, but never feel jarring or incongruous. He’s an exciting filmmaker we’re always keeping an eye on (as you’ll see shortly).

Can’t wait for this one. [Collider]
