New 'Where The Wild Things Are' Images

We’re gonna admit it, after the second trailer we got a little bit concerned about Spike Jonze’s “Where The Wild Things Are.”

Yes, it looks great, but the faces looked…a tiny bit off and perhaps not 100% believable. Obviously the creatures selling their emotions is the make-or-break crux of the film. But the recent character posters and these new images from a New York Times profile on the art direction, look and feel of the film, and once again tracking character creature designer Sonny Gerasimowicz, have restored a lot of our confidence . Sure, they’re photos and can be touched up, but we’ll give the filmmakers the benefit of the doubt since they’ve created such great works in the past. “I wanted it to be as natural feeling as possible,” Jonze told the NYT. “I wanted to shoot the wild things in camera: on location, out in the wild. [My objective was to] maintain this feeling I had reading the book as a kid. Those drawings are so immersive, you just fall into them.”

It would be gauche to post them here, but keep an eye out for early advance screenings of “Where The Wild Things Are” open to the public in NY and L.A. A few have passed by our desks, but, sadly, we haven’t been able to attend any of them because of scheduling issues. Either way, peep these images. They’re great. ‘Wild Things’ hits theaters October 16. Can’t wait to see it.
