'What/If' Trailer': Renée Zellweger Risks To Have It All In New Netflix Neo Noir About Immorality

Renée Zellweger used to be one of America’s sweethearts, especially after the late 1990s and early aughts when she appeared in the “Bridget Jones” film series and garnered two consecutive Academy Award nominations for Best Actress in 2002 and 2003 for “Bridget Jones” and “Chicago.” She would go on to win the Best Actress in a Supporting Role in 2004 for “Cold Mountain,” and she appeared to be on an unbeatable streak. But despite strong appearances in “Cinderella Man” and “Miss Potter,” she faced a bit of a career decline circa 2008 and then soon vanished from movies for almost five years. She returned to acting in 2016, but still has yet to find the role that brings her back in a major way, but maybe Netflix‘s “What/If” could be the elusive winner that puts her back on the A-list.

Created by Mike Kelley (“Swingtown” and “Revenge”), “What/If” explores “the ripple effects of what happens when acceptable people start doing unacceptable things. Each season will tackle a different morality tale inspired by culturally relevant source material. Here’s the synopsis for season one:

Neo-noir social thriller WHAT/IF explores the ripple effects of what happens when acceptable people start doing unacceptable things. The first season of the Netflix original series focuses on a mysterious woman’s lucrative, but dubious offer to a cash-strapped pair of San Francisco newlyweds. All ten episodes of WHAT/IF will become available to Netflix members worldwide on May 24, 2019.

The Netflix original series “What/If” stars the aforementioned Renée Zellweger, Jane Levy (“Castle Rock,”), Blake Jenner (“American Animals”), Samantha Ware (“Glee”), Keith Powers (“Famous in Love”), Daniella Pineda (“Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom”), Juan Castano (“Shades of Blue”), John Clarence Stewart (“Marvel’s Luke Cage”) & Dave Annable (“Brothers & Sisters”).
