Then Jonze himself revealed that the leaked clip was test footage, and then rumors appeared that Jonze might have to reshoot the entire film and that Warner Brothers were unhappy with what he had accomplished so far on his $70 million dollar budgeted film.
From the interweb started to spiral out of control and somehow the speculation and worry of force reshoots turned into, “will Spike Jonze get kicked off the project?” (though it appeared that there was nothing news-wise to indicate this other than the entire panic growing out of control).
Well, now it appears (and these are rumors as well, take that as you will) that reshoots are indeed happening and Jonze is still onboard (but of course). Collider says they spoke with two sources which both have confirmed the same story. “Spike is not getting replaced as director, Warner Bros. is not reshooting the entire movie, and we will see – at some point – Spike Jonze’s ‘Where the Wild Things Are.’ “
There will, however, be reshoots on the film apparently.
“I’ve been told that the movie is doing reshoots and that they’ll be done here in the Los Angeles area,” Collider wrote. “I’ve also been told that Spike is directing them and they’re mostly being done to fix the animation of the ‘Wild Things’ and to address a few problems with the script. Basically, all the usual stuff that comes up when you make a movie.”
There you have it: movies sometimes have difficult births. Message board dorks can get off the cliff, put down their shotguns and let the mob subside if for just a few moments.
