Bruce Springsteen Writes Closing Credits Track For Darren Aronofsky's 'The Wrestler'

We hadn’t checked into Darren Aronofsky’s blog in a long time. Mostly because it had been inactive as he’d been incredibly busy putting the finishing touches on his upcoming drama “The Wrestler,” starring Mickey Rourke.

There’s a ton of music written into the script*: Def Leppard, Cinderella, Great White, AC/DC , Motley Crue, and many other ’80s hair-metal rockers, but it turns out the closing credits are being handled by the Boss, Bruce Springsteen himself.

“Bruce Springsteen wrote a beautiful original song for the closing [of] the film. Called THE WRESTLER” it is a wonderful acoustic piece. Makes me choke up every time I hear it. He really captured the spirit of the film and Mickey’s character in the piece,” Aronofsky wrote on his blog, also noting that he had just come from the hippie dance fest Burning Man.

“The Wrestler” will have its world premiere any day now at the Venice Film Festival currently in progress. Past reports had claimed that Aronofsky would barely be ready with the film (which also stars Marisa Tomei and Evan Rachel Wood) and it sounds like they weren’t lying. The director says that they’ve been down to the wire trying to get the film finished. In fact, apparently the filmmakers are still awaiting Springsteen’s final version of the track and that’s what’s apparently holding the film up currently (but again, it should be ready, it does close Venice and appears at Toronto Film Festival and the New York Film Festival).

As previously reported, Aronofsky’s longtime composing partner, Clint Mansell (“Requiem For A Dream,” “The Fountain,”) has also composed the score here. *Whether all that ’80s rock remains in the film or was licensed a long time ago remains to be seen, but we bet there’s a good chance a large amount of these songs will be present.
